The Ministry of Lost Buttons wishes to announce that we have received 47,000 reports this season. Each button represents a small letting go, a quiet unraveling that goes unnoticed in the tumult of daily life.
We have catalogued them by shade: pearl, mahogany, brass, cloth. We have listened to their stories—the winter coat hastily buttoned, the child's dress from a year ago, the beloved sweater that finally surrendered.
Rather than recover these buttons, the Ministry has decided to observe them in their rest. Lost buttons, we have learned, require no fixing. They are complete in their absence.
